A firefighter from the city of Miami was arrested this week, accused of several incidents of indecent exposure that occurred in different areas of the county, authorities reported.

Demetrious Reshad Sams, 34, has worked for the Miami Fire Department for four years, according to spokesmen for the entity.

The The investigation began on June 7, when South Miami police received a report of a man who had exposed himself in a lewd manner to a passerby on Southwest 86th Street and 59th Avenue. The victim reported that she noticed a Dodge Charger following her. Upon reaching an intersection, the driver rolled down his window and began masturbating with his genitals exposed, causing the woman to flee screaming. Neighbors in the area reported seeing the car repeatedly, Telemundo 51 reported. Officers obtained surveillance video and confirmed that the vehicle was registered to Sams. The victim later identified the suspect as the man who exposed himself to her. Coral Gables police also contacted their South Miami colleagues after discovering that Sams' vehicle was linked to at least four other similar incidents in that jurisdiction. Sams was arrested on Tuesday and faces indecent exposure charges. Although he denied the crime, he admitted to being in the area. According to Sergeant Fernando Bosch, he even offered to never drive through the area again if the charges were dropped.

The Miami Fire Department said in a statement that it is aware of the case, although it has not yet had direct contact with Sams. "When contact is made, an internal investigation will begin in accordance with our policies and procedures," the agency said.

Police believe there may be more victims and ask anyone who witnessed similar incidents to contact the Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
