Illegal luggage: Two men traveled on a bus with 200,000 fentanyl pills
An anonymous complaint alerted about two people traveling on a bus along a highway in Sonora with around 200,000 fentanyl pills
Security authorities announced the capture of two men who were transporting around 200,000 fentanyl pills while traveling on a bus in the state of Sonora, bordering United States.
The arrest took place on the international highway between Caborca ??and Sonoyta, according to a joint statement from the Attorney General's Office (FGR), which details that an anonymous report alerted them to the presence of the drug on the vehicle.
Members of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC) moved to the vicinity of kilometer 120 of the International Highway, where they stopped a bus and, after an inspection, arrested the two individuals.
"The police seized 20 bags containing around 200,000 fentanyl pills that weighed approximately 19.8 kilos," the Attorney General's Office said.
Other seizures of fentanyl have been recorded in the state of Sonora this year. On April 21, two more men were arrested with more than 160,000 pills.
A week later, on April 28, another man was arrested with 299,170 blue tablets weighing almost 30 kilos of fentanyl, doses that were hidden in a suitcase.
In both cases, the individuals were also traveling on buses and were captured in Sonora.
Senior White House officials have highlighted improvements in the Mexican anti-drug fight in recent months. The main cartels responsible for smuggling drugs from Mexico to the United States are the Sinaloa and Jalisco New Generation cartels, designated as foreign terrorist organizations by the Republican government.
