Deputy from Michoacan reported the discovery of 4 bodies on a property that belonged to his family
Independent Representative Carlos Bautista stated that his family stopped living on that land years ago due to the presence of criminal groups
Four bodies were recovered from a clandestine grave located on a family property belonging to independent representative Carlos Bautista Tafolla, in the Toreo Alto–Tiamba area of ??Michoacan, following an operation led by the Commission for the Search of Missing Persons and mothers' collectives Searchers. The legislator, a member of the Hat Movement, confirmed that the discovery occurred after an investigation carried out last Wednesday. According to Bautista Tafolla, months ago he had alerted state authorities and search groups about an exposed skull that, he said, a dog had dragged off the property. He asserted that despite the report, the security and law enforcement agencies never responded to his request to inspect the area. The congressman indicated that his family stopped living on the property at least eight years ago due to the constant presence of criminal groups. The land, more than six hectares, includes organic avocado crops and a nature reserve. “It seems they want to blame me, as if I were hiding bodies there,” he declared after publications circulated insinuating his involvement. The search groups finally gained access to the site after several cancellations due to security concerns. One of the searchers indicated that they had requested the visit more than three months ago and that the remains could have been buried for one to two years. The bodies have already been handed over to the State Attorney General's Office for identification. Bautista Tafolla shared on social media the document authorizing the entry of state authorities, the National Guard, and the Municipal Police onto the property. However, the mothers searching for their missing loved ones reported that federal protection was recently withdrawn from them despite their work in high-risk areas. One of them asked for support in publicizing the case of her son, who disappeared seven years ago. She also requested that the case not distract from the investigation into the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo.“Let’s not lose sight of the fact that justice must be done; we must find the mastermind,” he stated. The search continues in the area due to the possibility of locating more remains. The congressman affirmed that the evidence suggests the existence of more clandestine graves. “They have found four bodies, but there could be many more,” he said.
