California Nurses Association promotes the Guaranteed Health Care For All Act
Concerned about cuts to health programs, members of the California Nurses Association promote the so-called AB 1900 Act
In response to the federal government's cuts to health programs, members of the California Nurses Association (CNA) requested the support of the California State Assembly to promote AB 1900, the Guaranteed Health Care For All Act. California's Guaranteed Health Care for All, also known as CalCare.
This comprehensive, high-quality, single-payer program represents, for many Californians, the only opportunity to access health care when they need it.
However, the project has been stalled in the state assembly for some time, where it is seeking possible approval.
In a statement, Puneet Maharaj, executive director of the CNA, addressed the importance of the project and how they have stopped its progress to prevent its approval.
“We condemn this shameful maneuver by the California State Assembly to prevent CalCare from advancing in the legislature.
Nurses know that Californians desperately need guaranteed health care. We have been fighting for decades to ensure that health care is a human right, regardless of patients' ability to pay,” she stated.
Following this, the woman, who has an extensive career focused on defending labor rights and Public health, she reiterated that the time has come to pass the bill. “Any delay on CalCare directly impacts the health of Californians. We cannot wait for the disastrous effects of HR 1 to occur or for more people to die. NOW is the time to pass CalCare. Our legislators still have time to do the right thing,” she emphasized. It should be noted that more than 300 organizations support CalCare, including the California Federation of Labor Unions, ACLU California Action, the California Teachers Association, the California Federation of Teachers, and the California School Employees Association. The California Teachers Association, the California Working Families Party, The Arc of California, College Professional and Technical Employees; and the Auto Workers Union (Region 6).
It should be noted that the joint authors of AB 1900 are Representatives Ash Kalra, Isaac Bryan, Alex Lee, Liz Ortega, and Chris Rogers.
