New York Police arrested a 38-year-old man on charges of breaking into a 59-year-old woman's apartment in Brooklyn and sexually assaulting her.
New York City police arrested 38-year-old Jakhongir Sattorov on charges of sexually assaulting a 59-year-old woman inside his apartment in the Bensonhurst section of Brooklyn.
According to the New York Police Department (NYPD), the man was charged on Saturday with three counts of rape, two counts of assault, criminal obstruction of breathing, and criminal damage.
The victim claimed that the attacker was his neighbor
According to authorities, the attack occurred on Friday around 8:30 pm in a home located near the intersection of 15th Avenue and 71st Street.
The preliminary investigation maintains that Jakhongir Sattorov would have broken down the door of the victim's apartment and demanded to have sexual relations with her.
When the woman refused, the suspect allegedly hit her, strangled her,and perpetrated the sexual assault inside the property.
Police sources indicate to the New York Post that the victim declared knowing the attacker and claimed that he was her neighbor.
The woman was taken to the hospital
The woman reported the fact to the police at approximately 11:15 pm and was subsequently transferred to NYU Langone Hospital—Brooklyn, formerly known as Lutheran Hospital.
Authorities reported that the victim was in stable condition after receiving medical attention.
On Saturday, NYPD detectives, Special Victims Unit officers,and forensic specialists remained at the scene collecting evidence.
Police initially confirmed that there was a “person of interest” in custody before formally announcing the arrest of Jakhongir Sattorov.
