A young man was accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend during a dispute in Georgia, which also led to charges against the victim for attempted hijacking
A domestic altercation that occurred on April 11 in the town of Warner Robins, Georgia, resulted in the arrest of Lucas Hayden and Ja'Dyia Smith, both 18 years old.
According to the police report cited by WMAZ, officers from the Warner Robins Police Department responded to a home after receiving a call about a disturbance around 12:15 p.m.
Escalation of confrontation
Authorities indicated that the couple had an initial argument that then escalated inside the home. According to the report, Hayden allegedly dragged Smith into a room and allegedly physically assaulted her.
The report states that the young woman, who was five months pregnant, had been beaten and subjected to an attempted strangulation using an article of clothing.
The case also includes allegations against Smith, who allegedly tried to run over Hayden with a vehicle during the altercation, according to statements collected in the investigation.
Subsequently, the suspect would have taken belongings from the victim and continued the confrontation inside the home.
Charges and legal status
Both youths were arrested on April 20 and face charges of aggravated assault. In addition, Hayden faces additional charges of kidnapping and property damage.
He remains held without bail in a Houston County detention center, while Smith was released on bond on April 30.
Authorities continue to evaluate the facts and have not offered additional details regarding the woman's health or pregnancy.
