They capture the president of a soccer club in Costa Rica accused by the US of drug trafficking
Wilder Eusse Osorio, president of the Municipal Liberia soccer club, would be linked to an organization dedicated to drug trafficking that operates in several countries
Businessman and sports leader Wilder Eusse Osorio, president of the Municipal Liberia club, was arrested in Costa Rica at the request of United States authorities, who are seeking his extradition for alleged crimes related to international drug trafficking.
According to the Public Ministry, Eusse, also known by the aliases “El Soldado” and “El Tío”, faces a formal accusation filed on June 10 before the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas.
The accusation charges him with two counts of conspiracy to manufacture and distribute cocaine with the intention of illegally introducing it into United States territory.
US authorities maintain that the businessman would be linked to an organization dedicated to drug trafficking that operated in different countries on the American continent, and that was allegedly responsible for introducing shipments of cocaine into the United States.
After his capture, Eusse will be presented before the San José Criminal Court to continue with the extradition process.
Eusse is recognized in the business world for leading the so-called Eusse Group, a conglomerate linked to service stations and other businesses in different areas of the country.
In addition, he became a relevant figure in Costa Rican soccer when he assumed the presidency of Municipal Liberia, a club that he has financed and accompanied in its process of sporting and administrative growth.
Wilder Eusse's name had already been publicly revealed weeks ago, when he was mentioned in the file of the so-called Lusso Case, an investigation into alleged money laundering linked to international drug trafficking.
According to judicial documents released by national media such as the newspaper La Nación, the sports leader was summoned due to his family relationship and meetings held with one of the main suspects in the case.
However, the authorities then clarified that Eusse was not listed as an accused in that investigation nor did he face precautionary measures related to said file. The businessman himself rejected any link with illegal activities.
