An armed confrontation between members of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Knights Templar group left at least five people dead in the municipality of Pátzcuaro, Michoacán, according to official reports and national media.
The victims were located inside a burned van, after an attack that occurred in different points in the region.
The first investigations point to the fact derived from a clash between both criminal organizations disputing territorial control.
State authorities confirmed that the confrontation was carried out by these two criminal groups. Even during the investigations they det It was found that some of the victims were wearing vests with insignia of the Knights Templar, which reinforces the hypothesis of direct confrontation.
According to reports from the authorities, the attack had originated when a convoy of armed civilians was intercepted by a group rival, which triggered the shootout. After the confrontation, the vehicles were set on fire, leaving the burned bodies inside.
