Where is the governor of Sinaloa Rubén Rocha almost 2 months after being accused by the US of drug trafficking
Rocha Moya has maintained an extremely low profile since the accusation against him for alleged links to the Los Chapitos faction.
The former governor of Sinaloa, Rubén Rocha Moya, would remain sheltered in a ranch located north of Culiacán since the end of April, after US prosecutors pointed him out for alleged links with the criminal faction known as Los Chapitos, as revealed by journalist Raymundo Riva Palacio.
According to sources close to the communicator, the former president would have moved almost immediately to a rural property located approximately 110 kilometers from the capital of Sinaloa after learning of the accusation filed in the Southern District Court of New York.
The journalist maintains that Rocha Moya has maintained an extremely low profile and that he only makes sporadic outings, mainly to Mexico City.
Likewise, he highlighted that the politician's public absence has fueled speculation about his legal and political situation, particularly after US authorities included him among a group of officials allegedly related to activities protecting the Sinaloa Cartel.
According to the communicator, both Rocha Moya and Senator Enrique Inzunza, another of those designated by the US, are monitored by federal authorities due to concerns that they will cross the border to offer themselves as informants, or that a commando will capture them, as happened with Ismael El Mayo Zambada, another of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, arrested in 2024, and take them prisoner to the United States.
The accusations against Rocha Moya are part of a broader investigation that, according to judicial documents cited in various reports, involves current and former Sinaloa officials accused of favoring members of Los Chapitos in exchange for political support and institutional protection.
So far, the former governor has not appeared publicly to respond to the reports about his alleged refuge or to the accusations made by the US authorities.
The federal government has previously maintained that any accusation must be supported by evidence and has avoided advancing conclusions about the case.
Rocha Moya's situation has become one of the most sensitive episodes in the bilateral relationship between Mexico and the United States in terms of security, as he is one of the highest-level officials identified for alleged links with criminal organizations.
