The premiere of Shrek 5 is delayed until June 2027
This is the third delay suffered by Shrek 5, in this next installment, the film will feature stars like Zendaya
Fans of our favorite green ogre will have to arm themselves with a little more patience. Universal and DreamWorks Animation have announced yet another schedule shift, pushing back the release of Shrek 5 to June 30, 2027. While news of this second delay has caused a stir in the realm of Far Far Away, excitement over the return of the original gang—and a stellar new addition—is keeping expectations sky-high. Originally slated for July 2026 and then December of the same year, the fifth installment in the series is taking its time hitting the big screen. While the studio hasn't given an official reason for this latest change, it's no secret that the summer months are prime hunting ground for big animated releases, and Universal has seen monumental success in this window with franchises like “Despicable Me” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.” This strategic move could ensure that “Shrek 5” gets the royal reception it deserves.
Names in the cast of Shrek™
The good news, which resonates louder than Shrek's roar, is the return of the cast that turned this saga into a cultural phenomenon. Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy and Cameron Diaz will return to lend their iconic voices to Shrek, Donkey and Fiona, respectively. But that's not all!
Hollywood royalty expands to welcome Zendaya, who joins the cast to play a role that has sparked a frenzy among fans: the daughter of Shrek and Fiona.
This fifth film, directed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, will arrive a quarter of a century after the original 2001 film forever revolutionized the concept of fairy tales.
'Shrek' was not only a box office hit with nearly $500 million grossed worldwide, but it also became the first animated film to win an Academy Award. It was followed by three successful sequels and two popular 'Puss in Boots' spin-offs, consolidating a cinematic universe that has left an indelible mark on popular culture.
So, even though the date on the calendar feels "far, far away," the return to one of cinema's most beloved realms is guaranteed. The promise of new adventures, the same irreverent humor as always, and the incorporation of a new generation thanks to Zendaya ensure that "Shrek 5" will be a cinematic event that no one will want to miss.
