The reason why Lindsay Lohan suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder
The 39-year-old American actress said that the constant stalking of the paparazzi during her youth seriously affected her mental health
After her return to acting, Lindsay Lohan shared a personal aspect of her mental health. The actress recently revealed that she suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
In a recent interview with The Times, the 39-year-old actress said that being constantly hounded by paparazzi during her youth gave her PTSD, and she doesn't want to expose her family to that.
"I don't want my family to go through the experience of being hounded by paparazzi like I was again. Those were terrifying times; I have extreme PTSD from those situations. The most invasive situations. Truly terrifying. And I just pray that things like that don't happen again. It's not safe. It's not fair," Lohan said.
The actress said she is relieved that the paparazzi harassment has lessened. "I feel like it's not as bad now. It was a lot worse when I was younger," she said. Lindsay Lohan also expressed her gratitude for the rise of social media, which has allowed celebrities to take control of their own narratives. "Now, thanks to social media, people can tell their own story the way they want. They've taken back control of their lives," she said. The actress also said she's learned to separate her professional life from her private life. What I™ ve learned over time is to separate my private life from my public life, and that was hard for me because nobody teaches you how to do that.
Why Did Lindsay Lohan Step Away From Hollywood?
In an interview with Bustle, Lindsay Lohan revealed why she was away from it for so long: paparazzi harassment, which affected both her career and her private life.
I feel like some of (my work) got overshadowed by the paparazzi and all that kind of stuff when I was younger, and that ™s kind of upsetting. "I wish that part hadn't happened," Lohan said. "I feel like it kind of took on a life of its own. That's why I wanted to disappear. I was like, 'Unless there's a story here, they're not going to focus on just my work,'" she added.
After her long absence, the actress returned to acting with several appearances in projects such as the musical remake of Mean Girls, the Netflix film Falling for Christmas, Irish Wish, and the sequel to Freaky Friday.
