Accusations against Julio Iglesias revives Veronica Castro's testimony: 'He grabbed my butt'
Veronica Castro's 2022 statements about the Spanish singer's inappropriate behavior have resurfaced on social media
The name of Mexican artist Veronica Castro has gone viral on social media after statements she made about her experience living with singer Julio Iglesias resurfaced Iglesias, who is currently embroiled in controversy after being accused of sexual assault and workplace harassment by two former employees. In 2022, the television host recounted unpleasant incidents involving the Spanish singer, the most notorious being when the performer of "Con la misma piedra" touched her buttocks without her consent during an awards ceremony in front of other artists. "He grabbed my butt on stage. There were several artists present, and Julio Iglesias was there... He was standing a little behind me, and suddenly I felt someone grab my butt, and 'ouch!' I jerked back, because I thought, 'Whoever did that, they're going to get what's coming to them,' and it was Julio," she recounted a few years ago in an interview with Pati Chapoy for the program "Ventaneando." Annoyed by the famous singer's behavior, Veronica Castro expressed her discomfort and received a response that left her more than surprised: "I told him: “'Listen, you bastard, why are you grabbing my ass?' and I don't know what else, he tells me: 'You won't let me record it there in the dressing room, well, I'll come and record it here on stage,'” she added. Another episode that Veronica Castro denounced occurred while she was interviewing the artist and, to the surprise of many, was televised. According to the actress, she initially refused to talk to the European singer due to her previous experience, but she gave in to the network's insistence. “We're doing the interview, we're talking about his life, his things, what he's doing, how he arrived in Mexico… Suddenly he says: 'Look, I've always wanted to kiss you, hug you and everything, and now that we're in front of the camera.' He gets up, grabs my head, and kisses me. And what do you do, Pati? In front of the camera, he…” I say, 'Why are you doing this to me?' and he replies, 'Because you won't let me in the dressing room'."she detailed at the time.
Two former employees accuse Julio Iglesias of sexual assault
The entertainment world was shaken by the publication of an investigation that points to the Spanish artist as having committed sexual assault and workplace abuse by two former employees.
The journalistic investigation, carried out by elDiario.es and Univision Noticias, included the testimony of 15 former employees who worked at various Iglesias properties between 1990 and 2023, located in the Dominican Republic and the Bahamas, as well as in his native Spain.
These testimonies describe episodes such as: “workplace humiliation,” “penetration without consent,” and “slapping,” which have been supported by documents, communication records, and medical reports.
