Shia LaBeouf pleads guilty to two counts of assault: what sentence will he have to serve?
The actor received the judge's verdict regarding the incident that occurred last February in a New Orleans bar during Mardi Grass
The trial of actor Shia LaBeouf has taken an unexpected turn after he was granted parole for pleading guilty to physically attacking three people outside a New Orleans bar last February, during Mardi Gras.
According to information cited by CNN, Judge Juana Marine-Lombard imposed a series of conditions on the actor that will grant him a six-month suspended sentence and two years of probation.
The protagonist of “Transformers” must complete a help program against alcoholism and stay away from the three victims and the bar, this was confirmed by the lawyer who led the celebrity's defense team, Sarah Chervinsky.
"Mr. LaBeouf came to court today wanting to take responsibility for his part in what happened, and he has done so," the lawyer told AP. “He now looks forward to focusing on family, work and new creative projects.”
For his part, one of the victims identified as Jeffrey Damnit stated that on the night of the attack, Shia LaBeouf pushed him and called him homophobic insults and screams.
“In New Orleans we are all equal, we should all feel safe, and we don't treat people differently based on relative fame,” said plaintiff's attorney Michael Kennedy.
Despite these statements, attorney Sarah Chervinsky described the incident as a “minor bar altercation during Mardi Grass” and assured that “there is no evidence that it was bias or prejudice.”
Shia LaBeouf and his history with the law
This is not the first time LaBeouf has been involved in a legal battle over his behavior. In 2017, he was arrested in New York City on suspicion of assault during a live broadcast.
Later that year, while filming the production “The Peanut Butter Falcon”, he was arrested by the authorities for the crime of disorderly conduct and obstruction while under the influence of alcohol; however, he was sentenced to probation.
A new legal process began in 2020, when he was accused of minor assault and petty theft in Los Angeles. At the end of the same year, the famous FKA Twigs filed a lawsuit against her for alleged physical and emotional abuse during their romantic relationship.
