Anna Wintour chooses Chloe Malle as successor at the head of Vogue United States
Now, the future of Vogue in the United States is in the hands of Chloe Malle, named editor by Anna Wintour
In a move that marks the future of the iconic fashion magazine, Anna Wintour has selected Chloe Malle as the new chief editorial content (HOEC) of Vogue United States. As first reported by Puck’s Lauren Sherman, an official announcement of this major change at the powerhouse publication could come as soon as Tuesday.
The move comes after Wintour, a 75-year-old legendary figure in the industry, announced in June that she would be stepping down from her role as head of the magazine’s day-to-day editorial operations.
At the time, Vogue said it was seeking a successor to “lead the day-to-day operations of the magazine across all platforms” and report directly to Wintour, who will continue in her roles as chief content officer of Conde Nast and global editorial director of Vogue.
Who is Chloe Malle?
Malle, 39, currently the editor of Vogue.com, is thus emerging as the chosen one to take the day-to-day reins of the publication. Her appointment isn’t entirely a surprise, as Page Six exclusively revealed last month that Wintour was reportedly considering her for the role. In August, it emerged that Malle was in the “final rounds” of interviews, beating out other internal candidates like Nicole Phelps, the global editor of Vogue Runway. The choice of Malle, the daughter of actress Candice Bergen and film director Louis Malle, is significant. Noted as a favorite editor on staff, she has proven her worth with notable work, such as conducting Lauren Sanchez’s Vogue cover interview for her wedding to Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. In announcing her transition in June, Wintour had words for her team that now resonate even more strongly: “Anyone in a creative field knows how essential it is to never stop growing in your work.” He said his “greatest pleasure” has been “helping the next generation of passionate editors revolutionize the industry with their own ideas.”With the appointment of Chloe Malle, Wintour is confident that this mission will continue.
Despite this change, Wintour assured that she will continue to pay “close attention to the fashion industry and the creative cultural force that is our extraordinary Met Ball,” reaffirming her ongoing commitment to the brand’s most iconic events.
