Anne Jakrajutatip, co-owner of Miss Universe, sentenced to prison for fraud
The Thai businesswoman's conviction stems from a lawsuit filed by plastic surgeon Raveewat Maschamadol, who invested in her company
The Miss Universe organization faces another legal blow. Anne Jakrajutatip, the Thai businesswoman and co-owner of the pageant, was sentenced to two years in prison by the Kwaeng Court after being found guilty of fraud. The news, which shook the entertainment world, comes at a time of high vulnerability for the international franchise. The sentence stems from a lawsuit filed by plastic surgeon Raveewat Maschamadol. According to the case file, Jakrajutatip and her company, JKN Global Group, allegedly deceived the doctor into investing approximately $900,000 in corporate bonds. The court determined that the businesswoman presented false financial information and concealed important data about her company's solvency to secure the investment. Despite the severity of the sentence, handed down on December 26, Jakrajutatip did not appear at the hearing. After being granted bail in 2023, the businesswoman stopped appearing before the authorities, leading to her being declared a fugitive. In addition to the jail sentence, her company, JKN Global Group, was fined approximately $1,200. This scandal adds to a series of crises facing Miss Universe. Recently, the victory of Mexican Fatima Bosch was marred by accusations of irregularities. Furthermore, rumors are circulating about the cancellation of Puerto Rico as the host country for the 2026 pageant, and there are open investigations against the organization's other partner, Raul Rocha Cantu.
