Don Omar announced his retirement from the stage in 2026
The Puerto Rican reggaeton singer plans to release a hits album, an unreleased album, and do one last farewell tour next year.
After 25 years of career, Don Omar is ready to say goodbye to the stage for good to focus on other aspects of his life.
In a recent interview with Telemundo, Don Omar spoke about his plans before finally retiring from music.
"Daddy Yankee retired, Hector Father today has his new life. believe that time will continue to demand that each of us look toward the moment when we have to pass the baton,” reflected Don Omar.
The reggaeton singer assured that it will not be a sudden goodbye, but rather a thoughtful process that will include the release of two albums and a world tour.
“I would like to make that first hits album, prepare a new, unreleased album and release it in 2026, and do one last tour with Don Omar in the United States and around the world,” he said.
In addition, Don Omar highlighted the importance of working and collaborating with new generations to leave a lasting mark on the urban genre.
“Having the opportunity to take advantage of the current situation, I think it is super important and also giving myself the opportunity to work with new generations, which is extremely important to collaborate and leave a mark,” he assured.
Don Omar's decision to retire from the stage is also influenced by his personal experience after having overcome kidney cancer last year, which made him change his perspective on life and appreciate every moment.
For him, music was his salvation since he was young, helping him escape a difficult life and build a bigger dream.
“I read that human beings have two lives and that we begin to live the second when we put the first at risk. I am living that second life in which the only thing I want is to enjoy the journey, I do not want to continue walking just for the sake of walking. Everything changed and after cancer, nothing looks the same,” he said.
With these words, the singer says goodbye little by little, leaving his fans the promise of a great closure to a career that has been fundamental in the development and popularization of reggaeton globally.
