Gwyneth Paltrow remembers the day she refused to film an intimate scene with Ethan Hawke
The American actress reminisced about filming
Hollywood stars Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow opened the treasure chest of memories and revealed several details of their experience working together during the filming of "Great Expectations" (1998), an adaptation of the Charles Dickens novel which was directed by Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron.
In a recent conversation led by both artists, some of the challenges they faced during the filming of the movie came to light, including the one in which the actress refused to film an intimate scene with her co-star, which had been proposed by the director.
According to Ethan Hawke, this consisted of an intimate sequence in which the actress's character would receive oral sex from him: “The camera is going to go down your belly, up your chest, and then focus on your face as you reach ecstasy. And when you reach ecstasy, the light will explode like the sun,” he explained.
“Alfonso, I'm never going to do that,” Gwyneth Paltrow responded at the time when approached by the Mexican filmmaker. “It really bothered me,” the actress recalled with a laugh. According to the actress, the reason behind her decision was the fear that her family would see her in a “compromising” situation with Hawke: “I felt really uncomfortable with the idea of ??my father and grandfather seeing that kind of thing,” she added. However, for the star of stories like “The Last Stand” and “The Last Stand,” performing a scene like this today wouldn't be a problem: “Maybe I was too prudent at the time… Now I wouldn't mind,” she noted during the conversation. In response, Ethan Hawke praised the way his co-star handled that moment: “You were aware of how the business works and how those images could be manipulated, and what it meant to your dad,” the heartthrob applauded.
