J Balvin consolidates his global success with his participation in the opening of the 2026 World Cup
The Colombian singer performed before a global audience as part of the largest inaugural celebration in FIFA history
Colombian singer J Balvin was part of the historic Official Opening Ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Mexico City. Clad in the colors of his flag, the famous man performed before an audience of 87,000 fans at the Mexico Stadium.
During his presentation, Balvin performed some of the most notable hits from his catalog, including “I Like It” and “Una a la Vez,” in the company of his compatriot Ryan Castro.
To accompany his performance, the 41-year-old artist turned to immersive visuals and a large-scale production designed to reflect the energy, diversity and global spirit of the tournament.
However, another of his proposals came from the fashion front. And J Balvin wore a personalized wardrobe created by the renowned Mexican designer Willy Chavarría. This collaboration united creative influences from Mexico and Colombia, celebrating the cultural link between the host country and one of the most influential artists in Latin music.
This participation represents another important milestone for the artist born in Medellín. Let us remember that he recently concluded “Ciudad Primavera”, Balvin's eight-city tour of Colombia, which brought together more than 260,000 fans, and reaffirms his presence in some of the most important cultural stages in the world.
In addition to J Balvin, the opening ceremony included the participation of Shakira, who was in charge of leading the show. During his presentation, the Nigerian singer and producer Burna Boy appeared to perform the official theme of the sports festival, “Dai Dai.”
Maná, Belinda, Los Ángeles Azules and Lila Downs joined the sports party, who launched an inspiring message at the beginning of the show: "The trophy is not defined by a player, nor by a single nation. Soccer unites us all... Welcome to the 2026 FIFA World Cup," said the artist.
