Lupita Jones criticizes Fatima Bosch: 'Miss Universe is not 'La Flor Tabasco''
Fatima Bosch, Miss Universe 2025, has faced numerous criticisms since being crowned universal queen in Thailand
Lupita Jones, the first Mexican woman to win the Miss Universe crown (1991), is at the center of controversy after questioning the behavior of the current universal queen, Fatima Bosch.
The controversy stems from Fatima Bosch's participation in a caravan in her native Tabasco, where the beauty queen was filmed dancing and mingling happily with attendees. These images, celebrated by many for showing a spontaneous and approachable attitude, did not sit well with Lupita Jones.
Jones, who is also a businesswoman and has been the director of the Nuestra Belleza Mexico franchise for many years, issued a direct criticism. In her statements, she compared Bosch's behavior to regional beauty pageants, stating emphatically: "Miss Universe is not 'La Flor Tabasco'," referring to the local pageant that Bosch herself won in the past.
According to Jones, the title of Miss Universe demands different standards of behavior and decorum than those of a local pageant, labeling Bosch's attitude as "out of place." Furthermore, she pointed out that Bosch needs to surround herself with people who can help her better manage her reign.
These words quickly went viral on platforms like TikTok and X (formerly Twitter), sparking a polarized debate. On one side, some supported Jones's position, considering that the title carries a more formal image.
On the other, a large number of users and commentators defended Bosch, arguing that her freshness and connection with people represent a positive and necessary evolution for the image of Miss Universe.
Criticism of Jones
Criticism of Jones was swift. On social media, many users pointed out that her comment reflects a restrictive and outdated view, even labeling her "envious."
Furthermore,The opportunity was taken to question the format and direction of the franchise she led, accusing it of failing to evolve in the face of social changes. Phrases like "Bosch is the Miss Universe who came to give the brand a new direction" circulated widely, highlighting a generational clash in the perception of the role of a beauty queen.
So far, Fatima Bosch has not issued an official response to her predecessor's statements.
Since the beginning of her reign, the Mexican has faced numerous criticisms, mainly due to accusations of fraud in this year's pageant.
