Maria Antonieta de las Nieves, the iconic actress who gave life to La Chilindrina in El Chavo del 8, officially said goodbye to her emblematic character after more than 50 years of career.
The decision comes after a serious crisis health she suffered in August during a trip to Peru, where she suffered from low sodium caused by neurological deterioration due to overmedication that led her to take up to 19 pills a day and caused speech difficulties and seizures.
After the health complication, the actress expressed in Matilde Obregon's podcast that "La Chilindrina is gone, she left in Peru."
"As I was dedicated to the circus with daily performances, no longer," she said about her circus show Aqui esta La Chilindrina.
The actress said that, although she could appear in a commercial or promotional video, she will not return to the intense tours and circus performances that reached up to three a day.
Maria Antonieta explained that she had never rested and that now she seeks to enjoy the calm, to be at home and to rest.

Back in Mexico, she was hospitalized for a week and began a recovery process that included rehabilitation and permanent care, with nurses.
The actress's daughter, Veronica Fernandez, recently said on Matilde Obregon's podcast that her mother took up to 19 pills a day, with the intention of improving her physical condition, but the combination was counterproductive.
Known for her role in the iconic Mexican series El Chavo del 8, broadcast in more than 50 countries, La Chilindrina established herself as a benchmark for family humor since the 1970s.
