Hezbollah rejects ceasefire agreement with Israel
In the absence of agreements, Israel says it will continue its operations on the ground in southern Lebanon
Hezbollah informed the Lebanese authorities that it rejects the ceasefire agreement announced in Washington between Lebanon and Israel. The decision, announced earlier by the head of Hezbollah, Naim Qasem, was transmitted "to the president of Parliament, Nabih Berri", an ally of the Shiite organization, who "shares the same position," he added.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun was awaiting the movement's response to the agreement announced Wednesday (06/03/2026), which contemplated a ceasefire conditional on a “complete cessation” of Hezbollah attacks. (efe, afp)
Israel will continue operations in Lebanon despite ceasefire
Israel will continue its operations on the ground in southern Lebanon for the time being and Lebanese residents who have been forced by Israel to leave their homes will not be able to return, Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Thursday.
Katz's comments come a day after Lebanon and Israel announced they had agreed to implement a ceasefire during talks in Washington. The agreement is contingent on Hezbollah's cessation of firing.
In a statement, Katz said troops would remain in the so-called security zone of southern Lebanon, including the area of Beaufort Castle, a 900-year-old fortress captured by Israel on Saturday. Furthermore, he stated that Israel would continue to “dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the area,” while ensuring that Israel had “freedom of action, backed by the United States, to strike in Beirut in response to attacks against Israeli communities and territory.”
