Miranda Priestly returns with power: “The Devil Wears Prada 2” conquers the box office
The highly anticipated sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is achieving unprecedented success in international and North American cinemas
“The Devil Wears Prada 2” had a strong start in its preview screenings. The 20th Century Studios sequel promises to be one of the highest-grossing films of 2026. The film, which reunites Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci two decades later, grossed $10 million in previews alone, according to Box Office Mojo. Furthermore, projections for its opening weekend point to a stratospheric debut of between $75 and $80 million in the United States. However, other estimates suggest it could surpass this figure, as well as the film "Michael." Last week, the Michael Jackson biopic debuted with a surprising $97.2 million, well above the estimated $70 million. "The Devil Wears Prada 2" now aims to emulate that feat and achieve two consecutive box office triumphs. The phenomenon is not just local. Internationally, the sequel has already grossed $40.5 million in its first two days after opening in 45 markets. The ambition of this sequel comes at a price. While the first film in 2006 cost $40 million, its sequel required a budget of $100 million, not including marketing expenses. Despite this, analysts predict it will easily surpass the total box office gross of the original, which finished its run with $125 million in the United States and $326 million worldwide (compared to an opening weekend of $27.5 million). What awaits us in the plot? Twenty years later, Andy Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, becomes the features editor of Runway magazine, which leads her to reunite with her former and formidable boss, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, and with fashion director Nigel Kipling, played by Stanley Tucci. She also crosses paths with Emily Charlton, played by Emily Blunt, Priestly's other former assistant, who is now... a senior executive at Dior.
