The SSI program is intended for adults and children with disabilities or blindness, as well as people age 65 and older who have limited income and financial resources.
For 2026, the maximum payment is $994 per month for an eligible individual. For married couples who meet all program requirements, the benefit can reach up to $1,491 per month.
However, the amount each beneficiary receives depends on their particular situation. According to the SSA, the average payment is around $737 per month, since factors such as income, available resources and other personal circumstances can modify the final amount.
Before submitting an application, it is important to verify that the specific disability appears within the subsections corresponding to each medical category. This can help avoid errors during the process and make case review easier.
