Hennessey wants to show that there is still room for a car where the driver has complete control.

That philosophy gave rise to the Blackbird, a hypercar that will arrive with limited production and a recipe that is uncommon today. Its combination of naturally aspirated V8 engine, rear-wheel drive and manual transmission seeks to recover the sensations that many fans consider increasingly difficult to find.

The model will be officially presented during Monterey Car Week 2026 and only 71 units will be built for the entire world, a figure that anticipates its exclusivity from day one.
A tribute inspired by speed
The name Blackbird was not chosen at random. Hennessey took as a reference the legendary Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird, the reconnaissance aircraft that went down in history for being one of the fastest ever built.
Although the objective of the car is not to replicate that feat, it does share the idea of offering an extreme, exclusive and developed product without following the dominant market trends.
After building models such as the Venom GT and the Venom F5, recognized for their impressive speed figures, the company decided to explore a different proposal, focused more on driving sensations than on breaking power records.
A naturally aspirated V8 and a manual transmission as the protagonists
The heart of the Blackbird will be a new 6.2-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine developed together with Ilmor Engineering, a company with extensive experience in manufacturing engines for the IndyCar category.
The engine will deliver between 800 and 850 horsepower and will send all that power exclusively to the rear axle through a six-speed manual transmission with exposed mechanical selector.
In a segment where practically all hypercars use sophisticated dual-clutch automatic transmissions, Hennessey opts for a configuration that requires permanent driver participation. Each gear change will be part of the experience and will reinforce the connection between the machine and whoever is behind the wheel.
Exclusivity for a very small group
Although the brand assures that the Blackbird was not conceived solely to seek spectacular figures, its performance will be on par with the great exponents of the segment. Estimated acceleration from 0 to 60 mph will be approximately 2.5 seconds and its top speed will be around 220 mph.
There will only be 71 examples, each one assembled practically by hand and designed for clients who value exclusivity as much as performance. The starting price will be $2,500,000 before taxes and any additional customizations.
The interest in this hypercar was already demonstrated even before the start of production. According to Hennessey, nearly two-thirds of the planned units already have a buyer, a sign that there is still a market willing to bet on authentic driving in the era of electrification.
