The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is taking measures to control dust at National Highway construction sites to improve the air quality index in the National Capital Region. This information was given in an official statement on Thursday.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement that NHAI has set up a Dust and Control Management Center as per the directions issued by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to improve the air quality index in the National Capital Region.

NHAI is implementing projects like Dwarka Expressway, UER II Delhi-Amritsar-Katra Expressway and Delhi-Dehradun Expressway around the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to the statement, in order to keep the air quality and dust levels under control, NHAI has directed its contractors/concessionaires to review the existing dust control measures at National Highway construction sites and comply with the CAQM/Central and/or State Pollution Control Board guidelines. Instructed to strictly follow the instructions. ,

With the deterioration in air quality standards in Delhi-NCR, CAQM has initiated action as envisaged under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).

In line with these guidelines, NHAI is ensuring that all possible measures are taken to maximize dust control at National Highway construction sites in the region, the statement said.

There was smoke in Delhi on Thursday due to field fires and adverse weather conditions. Due to which the sky became blurry and the sun hid. Due to which doctors had to issue a warning about the increase in breathing problems.

In many areas the air quality index has already crossed the 400 mark and has reached the severe category.
