Taragiri, the third stealth frigate under Project 17A of the Indian Navy is set for launch on September 11 at Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL).

MDL informed that this warship will be integrated with a large number of indigenous equipment and machinery from major industrial houses of the country as well as more than 100 MSMEs. Indigenization efforts have got a renewed thrust with the 'Make in India' policy.
Taragiri is being manufactured from September 10, 2020 and is expected to be delivered by August 2025. Weighing 3510 tonnes, Taragiri has been designed by the Indian Navy's in-house Bureau of Naval Design. Its length is 488.10 feet and width is 58.5 feet. It will be equipped with four engines and two gas turbines, which will give it the power to run in the sea.
With a displacement of 6670 tonnes, it can chase down enemies at sea with a maximum speed of 59 kmph. Its range can be 4600 km at the speed of 52 kmph and 10,200 km at the speed of 33 kmph. It will be equipped with two rigid inflatable boats. In this, 150 people can be deployed including 35 officers.
32 Barak 8 ER or India's secret weapon VLSRSAM missile can be installed in INS Taragiri. Not only this, 8 BrahMos anti-ship missiles can also be installed in it. At the same time, Vertical Launch System (VLS) will be used for the launch of these missiles. 2 RBU-6000 Anti-Submarine Rocket Launchers with 2 Triple Torpedo Tubes for Anti-Submarine Warfare will also be already present. Taragiri will also be equipped with a 76mm OTO Melara Naval Gun, 2 AK-630M CIWS Guns, Rotary Cannon (CIWS) (also known as Revolving Cannon)
