The exercise has started for the election of the next national president of the ruling party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the center. The term of the current national president JP Nadda is going to end on 30 June 2024. The party has to select its national president before that. JP Nadda's term as the national president of BJP had already ended in January 2024, but in view of the Lok Sabha elections, his term was extended till 30 June. Currently, JP Nadda has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Health in the Modi 3.0 government. Now the discussion and process has started in the BJP regarding his successor.
JP Nadda to Remain in Post Until New President is Selected
According to media reports, the current BJP President JP Nadda will remain in his post until the selection of the new party president. However, some media reports are also discussing that the election for the post of BJP President can be completed by September, but some reports are also saying that the party has to select a new president before June 30. The reason for this is that after the results of the Lok Sabha elections, he has been given the responsibility of the Ministry of Health. Before becoming the National President of BJP in 2019, Nadda also held the same ministry in the first term of the Modi government. JP Nadda's tenure as President ended in January itself, but in view of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he was given a six-month extension. Now his term will end in June.
Three Leaders in the Race for President
According to media reports quoting sources, the name of Maharashtra party leader and national general secretary Vinod Tawde is at the top among those in the race for the next president of BJP. Vinod Tawde has also been in charge of BJP's Bihar unit and it is said that his role is important in the changes in Bihar politics in recent months. After this, the name of Radha Mohan Singh is also being discussed. Apart from this, the third name is of tribal face Fagan Singh Kulaste. The fourth name in this race is Anurag Thakur. Besides these four names, there is also discussion that the BJP is focusing on gaining a stronghold in the states of South India. Therefore, a significant leader from South India could become the national president of BJP. However, his name has not been revealed yet.
BJP's Focus on South India and Maharashtra
Party sources say that BJP can hand over the responsibility of national president to a prominent face from Maharashtra or South India. The reason for this is that BJP has to make its presence felt in South India and bring back its lost support base in Maharashtra. Currently, it is supporting the government of Eknath Shinde in Maharashtra.
