Congress party's Central Election Authority chief Madhusudan Mistry said that till the last date for withdrawal of nominations on Saturday, no candidate withdrew and now two candidates are in the fray in the form of Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor . Now there is a direct competition between the two. Mistry said, polling will be held on October 17 and counting of votes will take place on October 19.

Madhusudan Mistry said, Tharoor and Kharge are getting equal opportunity in this election. Three leaders had filed nomination papers in this election, but the nomination paper of former Jharkhand minister KN Tripathi was rejected. Because the signature of one of his proposers did not match and the signature of another proposer had duplication.
More than nine thousand delegates will vote
In the election for the post of Congress President, more than nine thousand delegates (members of the electoral college) of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) will vote. According to the notification issued by the party on September 22, the period for filing nomination papers for the elections was from September 24 to 30. Voting will now be held on October 17. The counting of votes will take place on October 19 and the result will be declared on the same day.
