G20 Summit in India: India will chair the G20, more than 200 meetings will be held throughout the year
The G20 or Group of Twenty, is an intergovernmental forum of the world's major developed and developing economies.
G20 Summit: India will chair the G20 for one year from December 1, 2022 to November 30, 2023. During the presidency, the country is expected to host over 200 G20 meetings. According to the press release of the Ministry of External Affairs, the G20 Leaders' Summit at the level of Heads of State/Government is scheduled to be held in New Delhi on September 9 and 10, 2023.
The G20, or Group of Twenty, is an intergovernmental forum of the world's major developed and developing economies. It includes 19 countries – Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, UK, USA – and the European Union. (EU).
Collectively, the G20 accounts for 85 percent of global GDP, 75 percent of international trade, and two-thirds of the world population, making it a major platform for international economic cooperation.
India is part of the troika
India is currently part of the G20 troika (current, past and upcoming G20 presidencies) which includes Indonesia, Italy and India. During its presidency, India, Indonesia and Brazil will form the Troika. This will be the first time that the troika will include three developing countries and emerging economies, giving them a bigger voice.
In addition to G20 members, the G20 Presidency has a tradition of inviting some visiting countries and international organizations (IOs) to G20 meetings and summits.
The G20 currently includes : – Finance Tracks with 8 workstreams
(Global Macroeconomic Policy, Infrastructure Financing, International Financial Architecture, Sustainable Finance, Financial Inclusion, Health Finance, International Taxation, Financial Sector Reforms); Sherpa track, with 12 workstreams (anti-corruption, agriculture, culture, development, digital economy, employment, environment and climate, education, energy transition, health, trade and investment, tourism); 10 Engagement Groups of Private Sector/Civil Society/Independent Bodies (Business 20, Citizen 20, Labor 20, Parliament 20, Science 20, Apex Audit Institute 20, Think 20, Urban 20, Women 20 and Youth 20).
