State Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has taken the initiative to convert flood water into drinking water for these places as they do not have access to Ganga water due to their geographical location.

The Bihar government successfully implemented the Chief Minister's dream project 'Har Ghar Gangajal', which will bring happiness to the faces of lakhs of residents of Bihar and tourists of the state. Along with the CM, Water Resources Development Minister Sanjay Jha and engineering giant Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Limited (MEIL) should also be appreciated for this work.

Even though Ganga flows through this region, some areas face severe drinking water problem throughout the year due to non-availability of water. The first of its kind Gangajal Supply Scheme of the country under the Jal Jeevan Hariyali Mission aims to store the flood water received during the four monsoon months in the huge reservoirs constructed. The stored water will be treated and made safe for human consumption before being supplied to the homes of people and tourists in both the cities. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will inaugurate the project in Rajgir on 27 November 2022; The inauguration of Gaya and Bodh Gaya is on 28 November 2022.

The first phase of the project, which is now fully ready, is being launched in three cities of mythological, historical, cultural and religious importance. They are visited by a large number of tourists, resulting in a high demand for pure water. The project will meet this demand by supplying stored water to the cities of Rajgir, Gaya and Bodh Gaya in the first phase.

The importance of this project can be gauged from the fact that a special cabinet meeting was convened in Bodh Gaya in December 2019, in which the Hon'ble Chief Minister announced his resolve to bring Ganga water to these historic cities.

Announcing the inauguration of this mega project by the Chief Minister on 27th and 28th November, the WRD Minister said that "the vision and foresight of the CM and the determination of his department has made it possible to execute this unique water management initiative in record time". ."

Architecturally, the project is remarkable, as a vast natural reservoir was created using the natural landscape without disturbing the local flora and fauna. Ganga water will be lifted from Hathidah Ghat in Mokama, Patna and will be supplied to the cities through pipeline. MEIL completed the work in record time despite challenges like COVID-19 and others. The project is ready to serve the people of Bihar.

Hyderabad-based MEIL, which is executing the entire project, has created the massive infrastructure. In the first phase, intake well cum pump house was first built at Hathidah in Mokama area of ​​Patna. Water is sent from Hathidah to the detention tank built in Rajgir through a pipeline network. A total of four pump houses have been built. They are in Hathidah, Rajgir, Tetar and Gaya. The project has three storage reservoirs with active capacity at Rajgir (9.915 M.Cu.M), Tetar (18.633 M.Cu.M), and Gaya (0.938 M.Cu.M).

Water from these reservoirs will be pumped to 24 MLD in Rajgir, 186.5 MLD in Manpur and three different water treatment plants (WTPs) of different capacities in Gaya. In addition, the company has built two power substations of 132 KV/33 KV and 33 KV/11 KV capacity, laid 151 km of pipeline, built four bridges and one rail over bridge. Currently pumping 5 MLD of water as per PHED to Rajgir and supplying 135 LPCD (Litres Per Capita (Per Capita) Per Day) to the population in Gaya and Bodh Gaya.

Over 2,000 people worked tirelessly 24x7 to make Phase-1 a success! It also resulted in large scale employment generation and a circular economy where many small scale industries were benefitted.
