Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will travel to Japan this week to participate in the 2+2 dialogue where he will hold talks with his Japanese counterparts. The Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday that during the talks, the two sides will explore new ways to strengthen the bilateral partnership. A statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar will officially attend the second India-Japan 'two plus two' ministerial meeting from September 7 to 10.

According to the statement, during the visit, the two ministers will also participate in the Defense Ministerial Meeting with their counterparts and the Strategic Dialogue of Foreign Ministers. During this he will hold talks with Japanese Defense Minister Yasukazu Hamada and Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi. The Ministry of External Affairs said that the strategic and global partnership between India and Japan is based on the shared values ​​of democracy, freedom and respect for the rule of law.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh is currently on a three-day visit to Mongolia, he will go to Japan after the end of this tour. The 'two plus two' dialogue is being held more than five months after Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's visit to India at the annual India-Japan summit. During the summit in New Delhi, Kishida had announced to invest Rs 3,20,000 crore in India over the next five years.

In the two-plus-two dialogue, the two sides are expected to discuss ways to further expand bilateral cooperation in the field of defense and security and discuss developments in the Indo-Pacific region. India started two plus two dialogue with Japan in 2019. India also conducts two plus two dialogues with some countries which include the US, Japan, Australia and Russia.
