Who could receive up to $2,750 in rebates on their electric bills
Hawaii launched a rebate program of up to $2,750 for homes or businesses that meet the specifications established to qualify
Reducing the cost of electricity could be easier for thousands of families in the United States thanks to a new program that offers financial incentives to upgrade homes with more energy-efficient equipment. The state initiative provides for reimbursements of up to $2,750 for those who make certain improvements, with the aim of reducing energy consumption and, at the same time, alleviating the impact of monthly bills.
The benefit is aimed at residents and businesses in Hawaii, where the state energy conservation program Hawaii Energy presented this week its new rebate plan for the 2026-2027 period.
The aid will be available until June 30, 2027 or until the resources allocated for this program are exhausted.
According to Hawaii Energy, the rebates will cover part of the cost of purchasing and installing energy-efficient appliances and equipment. Requests will be attended to in order of arrival, so those interested must complete the process before the available budget runs out.
“For many Hawaii residents, reducing energy consumption is one of the most effective ways to reduce monthly expenses,” said Caroline Carl, CEO of Hawaii Energy. “Whether it's replacing an aging water heater or upgrading cooling equipment, our rebates help make those investments more affordable, so families and businesses can start saving sooner and continue to benefit from lower energy bills for years to come.”
The amount each applicant will receive will depend on the type of improvement they make to their home or business. The highest incentive, up to $2,750, is intended for those who install a solar water heater, a technology that significantly reduces electricity consumption in homes.
Another of the most important supports is the reimbursement of up to $1,250 dollars for the installation of a highly energy efficient central air conditioning system. Meanwhile, those who only perform a tune-up on their air conditioning will be able to access a refund of $75 dollars.
According to Hawaii Energy, air conditioning can account for up to half of a home's electricity consumption during the summer months. Additionally, water heating is another major electricity expense; Therefore, a more efficient system can reduce a home's electricity bill by up to 40%.
The program is available to electric customers living on the islands of Hawaii, Lanai, Maui, Molokai and Oahu. Residents and businesses located on Kauai are not eligible because they receive their electricity through a different cooperative.
Hawaii Energy also reported that low-income people and those living in geographically remote communities could access additional discounts for purchasing low-energy equipment, although these benefits will depend on the type of project they carry out.
People interested in requesting any of these reimbursements should consult the requirements and available options directly with Hawaii Energy, since the supports will be provided until the funds allocated for the program are exhausted.
