The Indian Postal Department has taken a unique initiative to promote voter awareness ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, including in Muzaffarpur. Special postage stamps have been issued, featuring three distinct designs in a single set. These stamps, titled “India, Mother of Democracy,” aim to highlight the rich democratic traditions of the nation.

Each set of stamps, priced at Rs 15, consists of three stamps valued at Rs 5 each. What sets these stamps apart is the incorporation of hymns from the Rigveda, which underscore the significance of democratic principles in Indian society.

The initiative aligns with the broader efforts of the Election Commission's Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) program, aimed at boosting voter turnout. The Postal Department's contribution through these stamps seeks to educate citizens about the historical evolution of India's democratic system.

Girish Kumar Das, Senior Postmaster of Muzaffarpur Head Post Office, emphasized the importance of these stamps in familiarizing people with India's democratic heritage. The stamps have garnered significant interest, especially among philatelists, as they offer a glimpse into India's democratic journey.

The first stamp in the set depicts the Lichchavi Republic, revered as the mother of democracy. The second stamp celebrates the democratic values of Sikhism, while the third stamp showcases the Uttarameru inscription. Available in both urban and rural post offices, these stamps have been well-received by the public, symbolizing a collective effort to promote civic engagement and democratic participation.
