Union Minister for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, Jitan Ram Manjhi, expressed his gratitude for being entrusted with a ministerial role in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's team. Manjhi, who assumed office at the ministry, considers himself fortunate for the trust bestowed upon him by the Prime Minister.

Reflecting on his conversation with Prime Minister Modi, Manjhi shared, “I consider myself fortunate that PM Narendra Modi considers me worthy of this responsibility. He entrusted me with the department of his vision, which aims to uplift the poor and ensure development reaches every corner of the nation.”

Manjhi emphasized the importance of his department in fulfilling the vision of inclusive development. He pledged to work diligently towards ensuring development reaches areas that have been historically underserved.

A Historic Achievement

Jitan Ram Manjhi, the patron of Hindustani Awam Morcha, achieved a historic milestone by winning the Gaya Lok Sabha seat for the NDA. This marks his debut as a minister in the central government, making him the first member of the Musahar caste from the Dalit community to hold such a position.

Born in Mahkar village of Khijrasarai in Gaya district, Bihar, the 79-year-old Manjhi hails from humble beginnings. His father, Ramjit Ram Manjhi, worked as a farm laborer. Manjhi pursued his education and graduated from Gaya Mahavidyalaya in 1966.

Breaking Age Barriers

Jitan Ram Manjhi's appointment as a minister breaks the age barrier in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's cabinet. At 79 years old, Manjhi is the oldest member in the cabinet, challenging the previous age restriction policy.

The Modi cabinet previously adhered to a 75+ formula, removing ministers aged 75 years or older in June 2016. However, Manjhi's inclusion signifies a departure from this policy, highlighting a commitment to merit and representation.
