A major decision has been taken to provide relief to the economically weaker sections in Maharashtra. The income limit for the Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) has now been increased from Rs 3 lakh to Rs 6 lakh for affordable homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. That is, now those people, whose income limit is slightly higher, will be able to buy houses in this category.
The Maharashtra government informed that the Union Ministry of Urban Development and Housing has informed the state government in this regard by writing a letter. This decision has been taken to help the economically weak people.
Significantly, PM Awas Yojana is for urban and rural people. Under this, people who have kutcha houses, who do not have roofs, can apply for a house under the PM Awas Yojana. Under this scheme, funds are given to the poor for building houses. Apart from this, subsidy is also given in home loans to people with low income. The scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 25 June 2015.
