Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been honored as the top central banker globally by the US-based magazine 'Global Finance'. He has been given an ‘A+’ rating in the Global Finance Central Bankers Report Card-2023. Governors of three central banks have been given 'A+' rating in this list, in which Das topped. Switzerland's Governor Thomas J. Jordan came second and Vietnam's Governor Nguyen Thi Hong came third.

Global Finance magazine said the scale ranges from 'A' to 'F' for success in controlling inflation, achieving economic growth targets, currency stability and interest rate management. Grade A indicates excellent performance, while grade F means complete failure. Earlier, in June 2023, the London Central Bank honored Shaktikanta Das with the Governor of the Year award.

RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said at an event in Indore on Friday that retail inflation is expected to soften from this month due to a reduction in the prices of vegetables like tomatoes. To control inflation, the government has taken several measures like ban on export of non-basmati rice and reduction in the price of cooking gas cylinders, he said. "We expect (retail) inflation to start coming down from September," Das said. Though retail inflation will remain high in August, we expect inflation to start coming down from September. Das said, tomato prices have already fallen. Retail prices of other vegetables are also expected to decline from this month.
