Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar's security has been upgraded. They will now be provided Z category security. Earlier, the Foreign Minister used to get Y category security cover. According to official sources, the Union Home Ministry has asked the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to take charge of their security. Till now Delhi Police used to handle this responsibility. 68-year-old Jaishankar was being protected by an armed team of Delhi Police in a 'Y' category security cordon.
Sources said they will now be provided security under the larger 'Z' category security cover by the CRPF. In this, about 14-15 armed commandos will be with them 24 hours in shifts across the country. The CRPF currently has 176 people under its VIP security cover, including Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
