Donald Trump attacks Rosie O Donnell and Ellen DeGeneres comes in her defense
Ellen DeGeneres comes out in support of Rosie O Donnell, after Trump called her a menace
It all started on Saturday, July 12, when Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social that he was "seriously considering" stripping Rosie of her US citizenship, adding that "she should stay in the wonderful country of Ireland, if they want her." The comedian, known for her progressive stances and her eternal rivalry with the former president, was quick to respond with irony and firmness.
What did Ellen say?
The next day, Ellen shared a screenshot of Trump's post on her Instagram account along with Rosie's response, accompanied by the message: "Good for you," tagging her colleague. The post surprised many, not only because of the public support, but also because years ago Rosie had confessed that her relationship with Ellen had been affected by a painful episode they experienced, of which few details were ever disclosed.
This gesture has been interpreted by many as a sign of reconciliation and sisterhood in times when political discourse threatens to further divide public figures.
Rosie O'Donnell, who currently resides in Ireland with her 12-year-old son Clay, had previously expressed that her move was in response to her desire to find a safe place free of hate.
"I am trying to find a home here in this beautiful country, and when it is safe for all citizens to have equal rights in the United States, that is when we will consider returning," she declared in January.
But Trump did not stop there. In recent days, he also referred to Rosie as "a threat to humanity," sparking a new wave of criticism toward the former president. In response, Rosie posted a photo of herself with a convicted child abuser, in a clear sarcastic allusion to the kind of “dangers” that really exist.
Ellen’s support not only sends a message of unity among women with troubled pasts, but also underscores the importance of speaking out against abuses of power, no matter where they come from.
