Democrats add five districts that they could wrestle from Republicans in midterm elections
The DCCC expands its efforts into territories in Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, South Carolina, and Virginia
Democrats see a greater chance of winning districts from Republicans by expanding their district map into territories in Colorado, Minnesota, Montana, South Carolina, and Virginia.
“Democrats are on the offensive, and our map reflects that ordinary Americans are tired of the broken promises of the “Republicans are ready for a change in Congress," said Suzan DelBene, chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC). The competitive districts where Democrats see an opportunity are CO-05, led by Jeff Crank; MN-01, led by Brad Finstad; MT-01, led by Ryan Zinke; SC-01, which is open after Nancy Mace decided to run for governor; and VA-05, led by John McGuire. In total, there are 44 districts where Democrats believe they have a chance. As she stated In a previous interview with this newspaper, DelBene explained that voters are concerned about healthcare, housing, food, and the cost of energy. “Everything is going up, and this is directly due to Republican policies that favor the wealthiest and leave working families behind,” she said. “Heading into the midterm elections, Democrats have the winning message, top-tier candidates, and the public on our side, paving the way for a new Democratic majority in the House Speaker under Hakeem Jeffries' leadership.” The DCCC notes that the “offensive additions to battleground districts” for the House of Representatives are part of its electoral strategy, which will have a crucial step in the March primaries. “This is the second time the DCCC has expanded its offensive map in recent months,” the group stated. “Last April, we launched our initial offensive map of 35 battleground districts, a list that was already longer than at the start of the 2024 cycle.” The DCCC emphasizes that the new electoral targets are in districts where Trump won by 13% or less.
“[These territories] reflect a sustained and significantly positive political environment, where Democrats have outperformed in every special election since Trump's inauguration, including the congressional special election by a margin of more than 17%,” he told this newspaper.
In addition to health insurance and other increases, the DCCC cites the tariff increase as an additional hardship reported by voters.
