Donald Trump warns that the United States will govern Venezuela for years
Donald Trump assured that US control over Venezuela will continue for years until the South American nation is stabilized
President Donald Trump clarified that the United States could govern Venezuela for years, as his goal is to lay the foundations for democracy to prevail in the South American country and for a stable economy to emerge.
During an interview with The New York Times, the 79-year-old Republican was questioned about How long his government did intend to control Venezuela?
“Only time will tell. The goal is to rebuild the country in a very profitable way. We are going to use oil and we are going to receive it. We are going to lower oil prices and give money to Venezuela, because it desperately needs it,” he stated.
It should be noted that, during the 13 years that Nicolas Maduro served as president, most Venezuelans were immersed in an unprecedented crisis that forced them to live practically in misery.
Therefore, millions of people emigrated in search of better living conditions; While only the inner circle close to the presidential family lived in the opulence generated by oil sales to countries like Russia and China.
Although it was believed that, with the fall of the Maduro regime, Venezuelans would enjoy the freedom to elect a new president, this power was assumed by the Washington government when it appointed Delcy Rodriguez as interim president.
Meanwhile, most of Venezuelan oil production will be directed to the United States, with no possibility of trading it with others nations.
In fact, starting this week, Venezuela will deliver between 30 and 50 million barrels of oil to the Trump administration.
Regarding the cabinet that replaced Maduro at the head of the Venezuelan government, Trump acknowledged that it behaves respectfully and is open to cooperating with the United States.
“They are giving us everything we consider necessary. Don't forget that they took our oil a long time ago years,”The conservative president alluded to the nationalization of facilities built by US oil companies in the South American nation. Trump even acknowledged that, once Venezuela has been stabilized, he would like to visit it.“I think at some point it will be safe,” he stated.
