According to the state Attorney General's Office, The incident occurred on the Chihuahua–Ciudad Juarez highway, near the municipality of Morelos, as agents were returning from an operation in which they located and dismantled clandestine laboratories linked to drug production. Among the victims were identified Pedro Roman Oseguera Cervantes, director of the State Investigation Agency (AEI) in the region, and Agent Manuel Genaro Mendez Montes. Two officers assigned to the United States Embassy, ????who were participating in training activities as part of bilateral security cooperation, also died.
