Six candidates for governor of California debate key policies
The six candidates address health, housing, and economic issues a month and a half before the primaries; the forum highlighted the differences in their proposals
The six leading candidates for governor of California debated Wednesday night to present and defend their proposals on health, housing, and the economy, just over a month before the primaries.
Eight candidates remain in the race for governor, but only six participated in the forum: Democrats Tom Steyer, Xavier Becerra, Matt Mahan, and Katie Porter, along with Republicans Steve Hilton, who received President Trump's endorsement, and Chad Bianco. It was the first debate among the candidates for the office currently held by Gavin Newsom since the departure, two weeks ago, of former Representative Eric Swalwell, accused of sexual assault.
