Trump dismisses conspiracy theories about Lindsey Graham: “The FBI should not waste its time”
The president assured that the senator's death responded to a health problem and downplayed the theories that are circulating
US President Donald Trump considered this Tuesday that the FBI would be wasting its time if it chose to investigate the recent death of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham after it was learned that federal agents had entered the legislator's home.
"He had a health problem. It's something very particular. But what actually happened is something very difficult to detect. I know that all kinds of conspiracy theories are circulating, but I think the FBI is wasting their time if they dedicate themselves to that," declared the president when asked about the matter during a meeting with the Iraqi Prime Minister, Ali al Zaidi, at the White House.
Graham died suddenly last Saturday at the age of 71 due to a tear in the aorta, according to preliminary reports.
The president claimed to have reviewed the medical reports and spoken with the White House doctors about the senator's death, after which he concluded that what happened was something “almost undetectable.”
"If it happens, there's not much you can do about it. If you look, his father died of the same thing and at a similar age, so there wasn't much room for maneuver," he stressed.
“I wish he had taken better care of himself,” he added.
After the senator's death, local media reported on the presence of FBI agents on Monday at Graham's residence in Washington.
On Sunday, FBI Director Kash Patel stated that his agency was “collaborating with local authorities and making all necessary resources available.”
Graham's unexpected death has fueled speculation on social media suggesting that his death may have been the result of a criminal act, although there is no evidence of this.
