Trump hosts dinner with moguls to fund $200 million White House ballroom
Donald Trump hosted several high-profile donors and investors, with representatives from the largest companies, including Amazon, Apple, Meta, and Google
President Trump hosted dozens of business titans as he seeks to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to add a ballroom to the White House.
The guest list for the East Room dinner included representatives from nearly two dozen corporations, including tech companies like Amazon, Apple, Meta, Google, Microsoft and Palantir, tobacco companies Altria and Reynolds American, and telecom giants T-Mobile and Comcast.
During the dinner, he said, he raised “enormous amounts of money” to build a new $200 million ballroom.
It's not immediately clear how many of the approximately 128 attendees opened their wallets for the multi-million dollar ballroom project, but Trump thanked those in attendance for donating “enormous amounts of money.” He assured that the cost is already “fully covered.”
“We have a lot of legends in the room tonight, and that's why we're here to celebrate them, their generosity,” Trump said during the event in the East Room.
The president added that “They wanted to have a ballroom, and it never happened because they didn't have a real estate agent.”
The project, which calls for the construction of a 90,000-square-foot ballroom, has drawn criticism for potential conflicts of interest, since private donors will fund the work inside the presidential residence.
Trump defended the need to expand official facilities to host foreign dignitaries and other guests, even as his administration experiences a government shutdown.
The ballroom is part of a long list of renovation projects Trump has undertaken since returning to the White House earlier this year. He installed massive flagpoles on the grounds, converted the Rose Garden into a courtyard, redecorated the Oval Office with gilded furniture, and installed a “Presidential Walk of Fame” featuring photos of his predecessors, except for former President Joe Biden, represented by the image of an automatic pen.
