Diego Cocca returns to the radar of the Liga MX
The former Mexico national team coach could join Club Atlas. Diego Cocca was a two-time champion with the Rojinegros
Diego Cocca has had complications in his last processes. The Argentine coach could have a new opportunity to relaunch his career. Club Atlas, the team with which he was a two-time champion, could reach out to help each other.
Club Atlas did not have a good start to the 2025 Apertura. The Mexican team made the decision to cut short Gonzalo Pineda's contract. Given this loss, Atlas management is studying the possibility of Cocca's return.
"Super Deportivo has learned that Diego Cocca, currently without a team, is in formal negotiations to return to the club where he was a two-time champion in Mexico," wrote César Luis Merlo.
The report explains that Diego Cocca would be the first option of Club Atlas management. The Argentine strategist has just cut short his contract with Talleres de Córdoba without managing a single match.
"The Argentine is the board's main option, and there are already talks underway to determine whether the Argentine, who joined the Mexican national team in 2023, will return to the club and experience his second stint," the report adds.
Diego Cocca in free fall
After winning twice with Club Atlas, Diego Cocca has had many problems in his subsequent steps. In fact, after leaving the red-and-black team, Cocca has not been able to manage even ten matches in his next four seasons.
Upon leaving Atlas, Diego Cocca took over as manager of the Tigres de la UANL. At this club, the Argentine only managed five matches, with a record of three wins, two draws, and no losses. But the Mexican national team came knocking, and the South American jumped at the chance.
As El Tri's coach, Diego Cocca managed seven matches. The Argentine coach achieved three wins, three draws, and only one loss. But the only setback in this process was a painful 3-0 defeat against the United States.
In December 2024, Diego Cocca had the opportunity to face his first European experience with Valladolid of Spain. Cocca only managed eight matches, achieving just one win and seven losses. This was the last measurable improvement. With Talleres de Córdoba, the South American left without managing a single match due to disagreements with the board.
