Florian Thauvin assured that Tigres de la UANL treated him badly
The French footballer acknowledged that he had bad times in Mexico and hit rock bottom. Thauvin does not deny the Mexican fans
The Tigres de la UANL have accustomed their fans to making big signings from Europe. One of their latest bombshells was that of Florian Thauvin from Olympique Marseille. But the memories in Mexico are not pleasant for the French footballer.
In June 2021, Florian Thauvin joined Tigres de la UANL. The French footballer arrived with high expectations after his time at teams such as Bastia, Lille, Newcastle, and the aforementioned Olympique Marseille. However, things didn't go so well for the Frenchman in Mexico.
"The club treated me badly. In Mexico, I hit rock bottom; they questioned my level at the point of firing me; it was difficult to accept," said Florian Thauvin in an interview with Lquipe.
Despite this, not everything was bad for the former Newcastle player. Florian Thauvin's bad memories are related to the club and its management, as he believes that in Mexico, “he met great people and a fantastic fan base.”
His nightmare ended in January 2023. Florian Thauvin signed for Udinese in Italy. The French midfielder has adapted perfectly to Italian football and has managed to remain at the club at the age of 32.
With Udinese, Thauvin has played 73 matches (4,448 minutes on the pitch), in which he has scored 15 goals and provided 10 assists. The Frenchman's value is currently around $6 million.
Thauvin in Mexico
One of Thauvin's bad memories at Tigres was that they questioned his quality. However, his record in Liga MX wasn't the best. The world champion didn't make much of a difference during his time with the university team.
Florian Thauvin played 38 matches for the Mexican team. In 2,065 minutes on the pitch, the French player contributed 8 goals and 5 assists. Thauvin didn't please the Mexican board, who made a huge financial effort to sign him.
