Jermall Charlo chooses his favorite between Canelo and Crawford
Jermall Charlo stated that Terence Crawford shouldn’t gain that much weight, but he still believes Bud could surprise Canelo Alvarez
Jermall Charlo chose Terence Crawford as his favorite to win the superfight he will star in with Saul 'Canelo' Álvarez on September 13 in Las Vegas and where the undisputed championship at 168 will be at stake pounds.
In an interview with The Ring magazine, Charlo stated that Crawford shouldn’t go up that much in weight, but he still thinks Bud could upset Canelo Álvarez.
“I like Crawford in this fight. He’s staying big. With Crawford, maybe he wants to go up in weight to absorb Canelo’s punches better, but technically, that’s not the Crawford we’ll see. Crawford isn’t a natural 168,” he said.
“Where’s his motivation? The money’s nice, but I don’t expect to see the Crawford that knocked out Gamboa. I don’t think he should go up that much in weight for this fight, but he had the opportunity,” he added.
According to some experts, Terence Crawford will be at a weight disadvantage and won’t be able to defeat the Mexican, but others believe that size won’t be an issue, as the American has the skills to defeat the 168-pound champion in his own turf.
After the fight with Cuban William Scull, where the Mexican fighter was criticized for his lackluster performance, many sports experts have changed their minds and see Bud with real chances of winning because they think the Guadalajara native is in decline.
If the American wins, he would become a three-time undisputed champion in different weight classes and make history in the sport, while Canelo Álvarez could end Crawford's undefeated record and send him into retirement.
Terence Crawford, 38, became champion of four different divisions by defeating Israil Madrimov and remains one of the best pound for pound. The two-time undisputed American monarch now has 41 wins, 31 of them by knockouts.
For his part, Saúl 'Canelo' Álvarez, 34,He became the undisputed super middleweight champion for the second time after defeating William Scull and now has a record of 63 wins (39 by knockout), two losses and two draws in his professional career.
