Mexican Lizbeth Ovalle signs for record fee in the NWSL with Orlando Pride
Lizbeth Ovalle leaves as Tigres top scorer in Liga MX Femenil with 136 goals
Mexican soccer player Lizbeth Ovalle signed with the Orlando Pride of the NWSL for a record fee of more than one million dollars.
The Pride did not disclose the terms of the agreement, but according to The Associated Press, it detailed that the Pride would pay a fee of $1.5 million dollars.
The transfer surpasses the $1.3 million Arsenal paid Liverpool for Canadian forward Olivia Smith in the English Women’s Super League last month.
This figure broke the previous record of $1.1 million that Chelsea paid to the San Diego Wave for defender Naomi Girma in January.
Ovalle, known as Jacquie, signed with the Pride through the 2027 season, with a mutual option for 2028.
“I am very happy to be joining the Orlando Pride,” Ovalle said in a statement released by the Pride. “I come with the clear objective of winning titles and leaving my mark on the Club. I am ready to give it my all and help the Orlando Pride continue to be a leading team.”

Lizbeth Ovalle, La Maga, is going to the United States
Lizbeth Ovalle, 25, is leaving the Tigres Femenil team with which she won six titles since joining the team in 2017.
Ovalle, nicknamed La Maga, has also represented Mexico in the Tri Femenino with 20 goals in 58 matches played.
The women’s soccer player leaves Tigres as the all-time leading scorer in the club’s history with 136 goals.
Nicknamed La Maga, Ovalle went viral on social media this year with a “scorpion kick” goal, only with her back to the goalkeeper, in a Tigres match against Guadalajara.
Ovalle will play in the Liga MX Femenil All-Star Game against Barcelona on Friday before joining the Pride.
“This is a historic transfer not only for our institution, but also for Mexican and global soccer,” Tigres said in a statement announcing the deal. “The transfer of a player widely recognized as the best in Liga MX Femenil has been finalized.”
