Mexico is approaching the top 10 of FIFA rankings after the Gold Cup
Mexico rose four spots, while Costa Rica was the team that climbed the most places in the last FIFA window
FIFA published the updated national team rankings on Thursday and Mexico advanced four spots after winning the Gold Cup against the United States.
According to the report, the Mexican national team and the United States were the two teams that played the most matches, with eight respectively. El Tri climbed four spots to move up to Concacaf-best 13th. Costa Rica, meanwhile, rose the most in the FIFA rankings, moving up 14 places to 40th. Mexico is now almost 52 points behind 10th place in the rankings, which was occupied by Croatia, who took over tenth after Italy's exit. FIFA Top 10 Rankings Changes Have Been Made There have been changes to the top ten, with Croatia (10th, up 1) now occupying Italy (11th, down 2); Portugal (6th, +1) and the Netherlands (7th, -1) have swapped places.
Germany (9th, +1) is now hot on Belgium's heels (8th), but the top five are still in the same boat at the top of the rankings: Argentina (1st) holds on to the top spot, followed by Spain (2nd) and France (3rd), closely followed by England (4th) and Brazil (5th).
Norway (33rd, +5), Paraguay (43rd, +5), North Macedonia (62nd, +5) and Zambia (83rd, +5) have also made notable gains, with Gold Cup quarter-finalists Costa Rica (40th, +14) arguably the most notable.
Major progress has also been made in Asia by Indonesia (118th, +5), Malaysia (125th, +6), Hong Kong, China (147th, +6) and Laos (185th, +5). In the Atlantic and the Caribbean, Bermuda (162nd, +6) and Grenada (167th, +7) are making even better progress.
