Mohamed Salah acknowledged that it will be difficult to accept that Diogo Jota will not be in the dressing room
Liverpool players remain shocked by the death of Diogo Jota. Mohamed Salah spoke about the sad loss of Diogo Jota
Mohamed Salah, the Egyptian Liverpool player, said on Friday that it will be “difficult to accept” that his teammate Diogo Jota, who died on Thursday in a traffic accident in Spain, will no longer be with us.
“I am speechless. Even Yesterday, I didn't think there could be anything that would scare me about returning to Liverpool after the holidays. Teammates come and go, but not like this. It's going to be incredibly difficult to accept that Diogo won't be there when we return," Salah said on his social media.
The Egyptian has shared a dressing room at Anfield since the Portuguese arrived in 2020 from Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"My thoughts are with his wife, his children and, of course, his parents, who have suddenly lost their children. Those close to Diogo and his brother Andre need all the support they can get. They will never be forgotten," added Salah.
International Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother Andre, 25, died in the early hours of Thursday in a traffic accident on the A52, in Cernadilla (Zamora, Spain), news that shocked Portugal and the world of football.
Their bodies arrived last night to the town of Gondomar (near Porto), where their wake and burial are scheduled, according to local media.
Images distributed by the Portuguese news channel SIC Noticias show how their remains arrived late Thursday in two hearses to the applause of dozens of local residents.
The channel specified that they were taken to the Chapel of the Resurrection.
The funeral to say goodbye to the brothers will be held this Saturday at 10:00 local time (one hour behind GMT) in the Mother Church of Gondomar, according to a source from the Municipal Council confirmed to Lusa, and then the remains will be transferred to the town cemetery.
